Founded in the summer of 2012, Vikings of Mercia have over a decade of being Corby's premier Early Medieval re-enactment group.
We cover the period known as the Viking Age: from the first known attack on Wessex in 789AD to the last attempted invasion in 1086AD: with a specific focus on 950-1066.
We are the Stålmenn: the Steel Men from the Steel Town!
Our team is made up of people from all walks of life. We have all ages and backgrounds and are open and welcoming to all.
Stålmenn operates with a core group of Officers operating in a Ruling Council under the joint leadership of our two Ældermen.
All members fall into one of three groups: Associates, Auxiliary and Full. All auxiliary and full members have voting rights at our meetings, and all Full members can become an Officer.
In camp, we portray the strata of classes in Viking society from the lowest slave to the wealthiest nobleman. Here we have our displays about Vikings history, interactive have-a-go activities such as archery and axe throwing, and the ever-popular combat displays and kiddy vike.
We love our kinship! Come watch or join us train Vikings every Sunday between 1.30pm and 4.30pm!
